BTEK Center powered by YDreams

YDreams has been commissioned by Bizkaia Technology Park to conceive and develop interactive solutions for the BTEK Center, a scientific interpretation center set to become a landmark, on the inside as well as the outside.
The BTEK Center’s impressive building is located in Zamudio, inside the Technology Park, which rises like a jagged black crystal withstanding the harsh winters of Biscay Province. The small town of Zamudio, minutes away from downtown Bilbao, is nestled amongst verdant mountains so characteristic of the Basque Country.
The Technology Park, one of the biggest in Spain, was established in 1985 by Basque Country public institutions and designed to promote diversification in industry as well as the transfer and diffusion of technology and innovation. The future BTEK Center aims to help visitors connect with technology and science, thereby stimulating rational thinking and a more critical spirit among audiences.
The museological conception and project management was handed over to the Elhuyar Foundation, a Basque non-profit institution, which together with BTEK and the Park, has been YDreams’ contact throughout the process.
Through a renowned partner, we were approached almost a year ago, and following a successful visit on the client’s part to our Barcelona showroom, YDreams Med led the typically long proposal run that culminated in a much celebrated last minute Christmas “gift” for YDreams Med, the Spanish affiliate.
Work is already under way on a global project that is drawing strength from almost every skill the company has to offer. YDreams will deliver numerous interactive solutions that pair 3D, augmented reality, mechanical and electronic components, image processing and gesture based technologies with creativity and design to render user-friendly, hands-on interfaces. YDreams will also handle the content, based on guidelines laid down by Elhuyar, on subjects ranging from computer science and telecommunications, to genetics and environmental protection, which caters to an audience comprised mainly of high-school students. YDreams industrial design expertise will also have a hand in a number of solutions.
The center is set to open in the final quarter of 2009. There’s your extra reason to spend a couple of days in Bilbao, if you ever needed one! The often rough flights through Biscay Province’s ever-changing weather are always worth the ride, and here’s what you can do once there: see the powered-by-YDreams BTEK Center, smell the fresh mountain air, wander through the old water-side quarters of Bilbao, past the titanium-clad Guggenheim, slip into a local pincho spot and get yourself something to eat.

YDreams ha recibido el encargo del Parque Tecnológico de Bizkaia de suministrar soluciones interactivas para el Centro BTEK, un centro de interpretación científico dispuesto a convertirse en un hito, tanto en el interior como en el exterior.
El impresionante edificio del Centro BTEK se estableció en Zamudio, en las instalaciones del Parque Tecnológico, y se levanta como un dentado cristal negro cabalgando por los duros inviernos de la provincia de Vizcaya. El municipio de Zamudio, a pocos minutos del centro de Bilbao, tiene su enclave entre montañas siempre verdes, como en todo el País Vasco.
El Parque Tecnológico, uno de los mayores de España, fue creado en 1985 por las instituciones públicas del País Vasco y está diseñado para promover la diversificación de la industria, así como la transferencia y difusión de la tecnología y la innovación. El futuro apunta a que el Centro BTEK será un nexo de unión entre los usuarios y la ciencia y la tecnología, que estimulará el pensamiento racional y un espíritu más crítico entre los visitantes.
La concepción museológica y la gestión del proyecto fueron encargadas a la Fundación Elhuyar, que junto a la dirección del Centro BTEK y el Parque Tecnológico de Bizkaia fueron los principales contactos de YDreams durante el proceso.
A través de un reputado colaborador, se nos acercaron hace casi un año. La visita del cliente a nuestro Showroom de Barcelona fue todo un éxito, lo que llevó a la presentación posterior de una propuesta de YDreams Med, que con el tiempo culminó en un proyecto que constituye todo un desafío.
Ya se está trabajando. En un proyecto global que extrae su fuerza de casi todas las competencias que la empresa tiene que ofrecer, YDreams proveerá numerosas soluciones interactivas 3D, realidad aumentada, componentes mecánicos y electrónicos, procesamiento de imágenes y tecnologías basadas en el gesto, potenciando su usabilidad con la creatividad y el diseño. La empresa facilitará también los contenidos, sobre la base de las directrices establecidas por Elhuyar, sobre temas que van desde la informática y las telecomunicaciones a la genética y la protección del medio ambiente, destinados a un público compuesto principalmente por estudiantes de escuela secundaria. Los conocimientos de diseño industrial de YDreams también están presentes en una serie de soluciones.
Está previsto que el centro abra sus puertas en el último trimestre de 2009. Este será un buen pretexto para pasar un par de días en Bilbao, ¡si alguna vez se necesitó alguno! Estas son algunas de las cosas que se pueden hacer: visitar el Centro BTEK impulsado por la tecnología de YDreams, oler el aire de las montañas, caminar por la ría, visitar el casco antiguo de Bilbao, pasar por el gigante de titanio, el Guggenheim, deslizarse por un bar de pinchos y picar algo para comer.
